69% of people ages 35-44 have lost at least one permanent tooth. By age 74, 26% of adults have lost all of their natural teeth. Only twenty years ago, the choices for teeth replacement were a removable denture or a fixed bridge. Today, there is a wonderful and very cosmetically appealing opportunity to replace missing teeth ... implants.
What Is A Dental Implant?
A dental implant is made from the highest grade of titanium. The implant is inserted into the jawbone in the area of the missing tooth or teeth. During a short healing period, the implant fuses with your jawbone and creates a solid platform for your replacement tooth. Dental implants have a 95-98% success rate and should last a lifetime if cared for properly. The dental implant acts as the root of the missing tooth. After the short healing period, a small post, known as an abutment, is placed onto the implant and extends through the gum tissue. The abutment acts as the anchor for your new replacement tooth or cap. Placements of dental implants are done in our office. Together we would decide which type of anesthesia is best for you. We offer local anesthesia, nitrous oxide sedation, intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia.
The Dental Implant Team
Your dental implant team is comprised of you, your restorative/general dentist, and our office. Dr. Gold will stay in close contact with your restorative dentist's office to coordinate your treatment. Even after your new tooth has been placed onto your implant, your progress will still be closely monitored by your restorative dentist and Dr. Gold.
