Replace Your Missing Teeth

Dental implants are changing the way people live! They are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. A person who has lost their teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything. Their teeth appear natural and their facial contours are preserved. Patients with dental implants can smile once again with confidence.

Dental Implant FAQ:

What Are Dental Implants?

The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as tooth root substitutes. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts that protrude through the gums are then attached to the implant. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth.

Implants also help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.

What is involved in Dental Implant Surgical Procedure?

For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures:

First, implants are placed within your jawbone. For the first three to six months following surgery, the implants are beneath the surface of the gums, gradually bonding with the jawbone. You should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet during this period. While this integration is occurring, your dentist is forming your new replacement teeth.

After the implant has bonded to the jawbone, the second phase begins. Dr. Gold will uncover the implants and attach small posts that protrude through the gums that will act as anchors for the artificial teeth. These posts will be covered and hidden from view by the artificial teeth that are placed. The entire procedure usually takes six to eight months. Most patients experience minimal disruption in their daily life.

What are new Dental Surgical Advances?

Using the most recent advances in dental implant technology, Dr. Gold is able to place single stage implants. These implants do not require a second procedure to uncover them but do require a minimum of six weeks of healing time before artificial teeth are placed. There are even situations where the implant can be placed at the same time as the tooth extraction – further minimizing your number of surgical procedures.

Dental implant placement is a team effort between an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon and a restorative dentist.  Dr. Gold performs the actual implant surgery, initial tooth extractions, and bone grafting if necessary.  The restorative dentist (your dentist) fits and makes the permanent prosthesis (tooth). Your dentist will also make any temporary prosthesis needed during the implant process.

What Types Of Prosthesis Are Available?

A single prosthesis (crown) is used to replace one missing tooth – each prosthetic tooth attaches to its own implant. A partial prosthesis (fixed bridge) can replace two or more teeth and may require only two or three implants. A complete dental prosthesis (fixed bridge) replaces all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw. The number of implants varies depending upon a variety of factors. A removable prosthesis (over denture) attaches to a bar or ball-in-socket attachments, whereas a fixed prosthesis is permanent and removable only by the dentist.

Dr. Gold performs in-office implant surgery in a hospital-style operating suite. Inpatient hospital implant surgery is for patients who have special medical or anesthetic needs, or for those who need extensive bone grafting.

Why Dental Implants?

Dental implants can vastly improve your life. When you lose several teeth – whether it’s a new situation or something that you have lived with for years – chances are you’ve never become fully accustomed to missing such a vital part of yourself.

Dental implants can be your doorway to renewed self-confidence and peace of mind.

A Swedish scientist and orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Per-Ingvar Branemark, developed this concept for oral rehabilitation more than 35 years ago. With his pioneering research, Dr. Branemark opened the door to a lifetime of renewed comfort and self-confidence for millions of individuals facing the frustration and embarrassment of tooth loss.

Why Select Dental Implants Over More Traditional Types Of Restorations?

There are several reasons: A dental bridge sacrifices the structure of surrounding good, healthy teeth to bridge the space of the missing tooth/teeth. In addition, removing a denture or a “partial” at night may be inconvenient, not to mention dentures that slip can be uncomfortable and rather embarrassing.

Are You A Candidate For Implants?

If you are considering dental implants in Westfield NJ, your mouth must be examined thoroughly and your medical and dental history reviewed. If your mouth is not ideal for implants there are ways of improving the outcome, such as bone grafting, which may be recommended.

What Type Of Anesthesia Is Used?

The majority of dental implants and bone grafting can be performed in our office under local anesthesia, with or without general anesthesia.

Do Implants Need Special Care?

Once the implants are in place they will serve you well for many years if you take good care of them and keep your mouth healthy. Good oral hygiene (brushing and flossing) and keeping regular appointments with your dental specialists is key to the long-term success of dental implants.

Patient Review By Dorothy S.

I have been a patient of Dr. Ronen Gold since 2010 and can honestly testify as to his professional manner and complete attention to details while preparing my gums for dental implants. I like the fact that Dr. Gold informs his patient, step by step, as to what is to be expected ... no surprises! After the procedure is completed, he is kind enough to call his patient that very evening to check that all is O.K., which, to me, is very re-assuring. I am very happy with Dr. Gold's excellent practice! Dorothy A. Sobin

I was apprehensive on having my last wisdom pulled. Dr. Gold and the staff made me feel very at ease. Minimal pain afterwards, no swelling and no complications afterwards. So glad Dr. Gold took care of me. I left him a message the next day that "I love him" and yes my husband knows about it.

I had an abscess in my tooth that needed to be extracted immediately. I was very concerned that it would be impossible to have an implant in that area because the abscess was so severe. Dr. Gold extracted the tooth and immediately performed a bone graft. Shortly thereafter an implant was put into place. Both procedures were done painlessly. I could not be more pleased with the outcome! From the initial visit to the final follow up, the entire staff was kind, professional, and efficient. I have since returned to have a number of additional procedures performed; the quality of treatment remained consistently excellent. You are in good hands with Dr. Gold.

The entire process from scheduling to follow up visits has been outstanding. Dr. gold has a wonderful staff, clean and comfortable facility and handles the process with an ease that effects the patient experience. Dr. Gold's personality is what makes the procedure different. He seems to care about his patient's comfort, safety and healing process. Since our family had an experience with another oral surgeon within the same year with our older daughter - I can only say I WISH both my children were patients of Dr. Gold's!

Dr. Gold and his staff were wonderful. They explained every step of the procedure my son was having. They made him feel comfortable and were there every step of the away, especially post-op, to make sure he was comfortable and knew what to expect. I recommend Dr. Gold to any of my friends who need an oral surgeon for themselves or their children. This is a very professional and well run practice, that also really cares about their patients!

Dr. Gold has treated us many times for different procedures. Each time he showed professionalism and a wonderful bedside manner that put all of us at ease. After each procedure, he followed up with a phone call in the evening to make sure we were comfortable and to answer any questions. We wouldn't consider going to anyone else for our oral surgery needs.

Dr. Gold is awesome with children! I brought my nervous 10 year old son to him, and Dr. Gold immediately put him at ease. Patient Review By Amy R.

Wonderful!!! We have been to Dr. Gold's office on a few occasions to have teeth extracted- for my daughters (at the recommendation of our orthodontist... Who highly recommends Dr. Gold). He certainly goes "the extra mile-" walking us through the steps of the procedure and setting our minds at ease. Both my 9yr old and 12 yr old were very nervous and concerned going in for their appointments. On each occasion, he patiently explained what was going to happen- and set their minds at ease. Every time we've been to Dr. Gold we've received a follow-up call in the evening- completely amazing!!! Wishing all our doctors could show us this level of care! Thank you Dr. Gold!

Dr. Gold was terrific. I was terrified to have an extraction, a bone graft, and then Dental implants put in. Dr. Gold new how much anxiety I have had all throughout my lifetime about all Dentists, and he was so comforting. He made the whole experience simple, painless, and comfortable....and very successful! Not that I want to have any other work done in my mouth, but if I do, I won't worry any more. Thank you Dr. Gold!!!

Dr Gold and his team provided white glove treatment for our teenaged daughter in a recent visit to remove her wisdom teeth. The entire experience- from Dr Gold's assessment of what she needed, to the scheduling process with his team, to the procedure and follow up, to the billing process- was outstanding. Consider our family huge fans of Dr Gold and his team and we wholeheartedly recommend Dr Gold to any parent considering oral surgery for their child or themselves.

Patient Review By Abby S.

Dr. Gold was a life saver, not once but twice. Not only did I have a medical emergency where I needed a tooth pulled, but so did my 8 year old son. His gentle bed side manner coupled with his comepetency in his field, left us feeling incredibly confident in his ability to perform the work efficiently and accurately. Not to mention that my emergency was in the late hours of the night and he came in immediately and opened the office to do the work. I would highly recommend Dr. Gold to anyone in need of his services.

Patient Review By Jessica W.

Dr. Gold is wonderful! He is very professional, thorough and gentle. He made both of my kids and myself feel very comfortable when they had several teeth extracted. They did not feel any pain or discomfort whatsoever, and his post surgical instructions were very clear. I was pleasantly surprised that Dr. Gold called me the evening of my kids' procedures to see how they were feeling. More doctors should emulate Dr. Gold's approach. I would highly recommend him.
